Lumsden Memorial Window, St James the Less, Aberdeen

Work will shortly commence on the restoration of the Lumsden Memorial Window at St James the Less, Aberdeen. The window was installed in St James Episcopal Church, Crown Street in the late 1800's as a memorial to Lieutenant William Henry Lumsden, killed in action during the Indian uprising in 1857.

When the church moved from the Crown Street site to it's present location at the W end of Union Street, the Lumsden family gave permission for the window to be removed and reinstalled in the new church.

At some point, the window has suffered some damage in the upper section - straps, replacement sections of glass and temporary repairs using wooden pins are evident. These repairs have failed, and we will be removing the window to the workshop for a full restoration over the next several months.
