Classes at Westhall Workshops

Karan Raitt cutting lead for her first panel

There is a real shortage of taught courses in stained glass right now. Karan (pictured above) approached me a couple of months back about learning leaded glass techniques. I put her in touch with a number of places offering courses, but she wasn't able to get a place in the northern half of the UK! As the course I am teaching at Woodend Barn was full, I offered her an informal short course, at my workshops instead. We had a great time, with loads of swearing and biscuits making it just like a normal day at the workshop for me...!

"Untitled" - Fused Glass Bowl, Gordon Watt (2007)

Just a reminder to artists and makers in NE Scotland that the registration dedaline for this year's North East Open Studios event is fast approaching.  NEOS is an award winning collective of artists, makers and galleries based in northeast Scotland, who open their doors to the public yearly.

Victorian style windows for an Arts & Crafts house

20080314-IMG_1146.jpg

This morning saw the fitting of three Victorian-style panels in an Arts & Crafts era house in Bieldside. The house, although modernised in part, still retains original leaded quarries in an area that formed a small-scale studio pottery. I will post more images in the portfolio soon.

Screenprinting the Auchterless Panel - Day 1

20080312-IMG_1126.jpg

The process of screenprinting onto glass has been simplified enormously by the ability to digitally print design onto acetate. Yesterday I picked up the full size separation for the panel, and we cut it up into the individual glass sections. In the photo Linsay is attaching each section to the coated screen.

Started work on screenprinting the Auchterless Kirk stained glass panel today. Each piece of glass in the design will be screenprinted using enamel. Linsay Croall at Peacock is helping me through the process, and we spent today setting up the intial two screens.
