"Haven" - Edenholme Care Home Sculpture update
Gabi Reith and I have been working on designs for a large fused glass sculpture for a care home in Stonehaven. After several iterations, the project design is pretty much finalised, the structural support designed and we are about to start building the thing...
The piece consists of two 2m x 0.6m upright slabs of cast glass, depicting the sea, hills and wildlife of Stonehaven, and is based on the idea of a sanctuary. Here's a small extract from the preliminary design sketches.
The plan is to sandcast large sheets of glass onto low relief fibrepaper moulds, in the same way we made "Two Rivers". The individual sheets will then be laminated onto a toughened glass backing sheet, and inserted into a custom steel frame.
