Restored Doorway, Aberdeen

Morning Glass were asked to restore these three windows, which had seen some action over the years. The original reverse gilded number had been over painted with gold paint, with cut out relief numbers glued onto the outside.

Most of the glass was intact, including the painted bird, but long-term movement had stretched the lead and made the panels extremely loose in the frames.

We stripped out all three panels and re-leaded, making good a few broken sections. The client tried a number of different typefaces by printing them out and sticking them up. After they chose, the number was reverse gilded and backed up before releading in wide heart lead with a backing plate.
