South Church, Elgin.

This week saw us start repairs to the zinc-framed windows at South Church, Elgin. South Church is a large Gothic building with tall nave walls and a prominent tower at the N-end, built in the mid 1800’s and currently B-listed. The rectangular nave contains the bulk of the glazing, with additional windows in the Tower and Vestry at the S-end of the church.

The majority of windows throughout the church are zinc T-bar diamond glazed, set in stone with steel reinforcement, hoppers, and the Nave and North Gable windows are split by an upper floor level. Two stained glass windows (artist unknown) were noted high on the S Gable of the Nave.

Over the next few months we will be replacing several hundred damaged quarries throughout the church as it gets ready to start a new life as a Physiotherapy Centre.
