Traditional Victorian Style Doorset with reclaimed glass, Aberdeen

I installed these five panels today in a property in the west end of Aberdeen. When the client moved into the house, she found several old panels in the attic which had clearly been removed from the front door and vestibule. Although the idea of re-instating the windows was attractive, the original windows were were somewhat damaged, and were comprised of a very dark amber glass.

In the end, we remade the panels to the original design, using lighter glass for the central quarries, replacing the amber of the outer sacrifical strip with clear. We incorporated some beautiful blue glass from the original panels for a border, and created a traditional water-gilded 23.5ct gold leaf number rondel. The timber door frame is also completely new - a copy of the original by Scullion & Bruce of Aberdeen.
